Philadelphia’s arts and culture are second to none. We are home to some of the world’s greatest historical and cultural treasures. We need to make sure every Philadelphian now, and for generations to come, enjoy these treasures. Arts and culture are critical to our growing tourism industry and the thousands of jobs it generates.

As Mayor, Lynne will:

  • Restore the position of Deputy City Representative for Arts and Culture, which was so effective during Ed Rendell’s administration, to coordinate the City’s efforts to promote arts and culture.
  • Celebrate Philadelphia as a major “Arts Destination” and promote our vibrant arts and cultural institutions throughout the region, the nation and the world.
  • In particular, we should use the 2016 Democratic Convention to present a festival of arts and culture in which the City will put on its best while the nation is watching.
  • Celebrate Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia this fall for the Catholic-sponsored World Meeting of Families by showcasing the greatness of our City, and our unique history of religious tolerance.

In sum, Lynne as Mayor will be a steward of Philadelphia’s cultural renaissance.
